Biographical/Historical Note
Florence Nellie (Wade) Whitcomb was born circa 1861. She was the daughter of Deacon Eben D. and Mary R. (Dyer) Wade. She was married to S. S. Whitcomb, Esq., of Lawrence, Kansas. She graduated from the Maine Central Institute in 1880, at age nineteen. Many of her poems appeared in the Morning Star, a Freewill Baptist newspaper. Nellie Wade Whitcomb also published under the name Hopestill Farnham.
