Collection Scope and Content
The collection consists primarily of meeting and financial records, dating from the 1930s to the present. There are constitutions, brochures, clippings, and some photographs of the founder and members.

Biographical/Historical Note
The Female Samaritan Society was founded in Portland, Maine in 1828. Reorganized in 1834, it became the Female Samaritan Association. The subscribers paid an initiation fee and then yearly dues with the money and bequests that were invested. The subscribers aided the poor and donated funds to social service providers. They met monthly.
